To Neil's Family:
I was so sad to hear this news. My condolences to you all. I am Neil's fraternity brother from Washington and Lee. We spent a lot of time together at the SPE house, on campus and playing intramural sports. I read in Neil's obituary the description that he was a superb athlete. That was definitely true. He was talented, tough and could play just about anything. Around the house, he was friends with everyone, always in good spirits and up for action. He had a gritty exterior that was a façade to a really kind and gentle soul. I recall especially one Sunday morning our senior year after a raucous frat party, going over to his apartment that he shared with Blair and Paige. I had over-indulged myself the night before and was hung over. He made the couch into a bed for me, cooked egg sandwiches and coffee and brought me back to health. He loved his hometown, Germantown Academy and all teams Philly. One late night, he and I were debating the Miracle of the Meadowlands. As a Giant fan, I must have suppressed who for the Eagles scored on the play after the fumble. I definitely remembered the Giants' players- Pisarchick and Czonka. In an age long before Google, etc., Neil thought to call the sports desk at the Philadelphia Inquirer to settle the debate and bet. Regrettably, the desk was occupied, though after 2AM that morning, and of course the newspaper person was quick to confirm Neil's rendition- Herm Edwards! I am not able to make it on Monday for Neil's services to convey my sorrow to you in person. I hope this note helps just a little bit. In further tribute to my friend and fraternity brother, I will route tomorrow for his team in the Super Bowl- not an easy thing to do for a Giants fan! My best wishes to you all in this time of sorrow. Kevin Hunt.
