Obituary of Mildred D. Shortall
Mildred D. Shortall (Schlecht), long time resident of Warminster, Pa, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021. She was 84. She was born in the Kensington section of Philadelphia to the late John Schlecht and Naomi Pyffer (Johnson) and was the eldest of 9 children. Three of whom predeceased her; Bertram Johnson, Ellen Wohrle and Debbie James.
Mildred completed her schooling early to help raise her 8 brothers and sisters. She entered the work force at a very young age. She was working at the Bell Telephone Company. when she met her dance partner, Edward Shortall, her husband of 62 years, who predeceased her in 2019. Together they raised three daughters. She was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother to Taylor Jeanne Weisel, who predeceased her in 2020, Eddie Hockenbury, Steven Hockenbury (Kelly), Tommy Boyd, Brianna Hockenbury, Keith Weisel, Brayden Peet, Olivia Hockenbury and Amber Boyd who predeceased her in 1988. Her grandchildren & great grandchildren were the light of her life.
Mildred was a dedicated employee who retired from Philadelphia Electric Company after 25 plus years of service. She worked full time up until the age of 75. She loved to dance, cook, do crossword puzzles, read, watch scary movies and play cards with her grandchildren even though she always caught them cheating. She was the matriarch of the family; the glue that kept everyone together.
She was truly the nicest person you would ever want to meet always making sure everyone had enough food to feed their families and a roof over their heads.
She is survived by her daughters Diane Rieco (David), Denise Boyd (Tom), Diedre Hockenbury (Steve), her grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings Wendy Shiffler (Bob), Margie Hurst, Robert Pyffer (Mary), Roger Pyffer (Dot) and George Pyffer.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family, Monday, April 12, 2021 at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Warminster, Pa. from 9:00am to 10:45am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Interment will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, Pa. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 9:30am.
Mildred loved helping other people and spending time with her family, so in lieu of flowers, help celebrate her life by paying it forward in your everyday lives.
