Obituary of Josephine H. Thomas

Josephine H Thomas (1930-2022) Josephine “Jo” Hoffmann Thomas died on February 2, 2022. She was born in 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Lt. Col. Joseph S. Hoffmann and Dorothy Murnane Hoffmann. She was married to Charles “Chuck” A. Thomas for 55 years. She lived the nomadic life as an Army Brat, including six years in post-war Germany and Paris until she settled in Warminster, PA with her family in 1965. She is survived by 6 children: Kathleen M., Dorothy A., Ruth E. (Joseph Green), Alice L., Sean F. (Marianne) and Richard H. (Kate) and Michele Thomas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and her siblings, Joseph H. Hoffmann of Novato, CA and Mary E. Kolling of Oak Ridge, TN and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband and sons, Charles J., and Matthew A. Jo was devoted to her family, church, and country. She was an active parishioner at St. Joseph’s Warrington. She was proud to have been one of the parish’s first women Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers, roles she served faithfully for over 30 years. She was also active in the St. Anthony’s Women’s Guild. A lifetime Girl Scout, she was a Girl Scout leader for a junior troop and later a senior troop and enjoyed camping and other activities with her Scouts. Jo was a proud founding member and archivist of the Dackel Association which was made up of the members of the classes of 1947-55 that attended Frankfurt American High School in post-war Germany. The Association met for annual reunions all across the United States. Jo and Chuck loved to travel as proven by taking all eight children on a cross country trip to California by van in 1973. She was very proud of the fact that she and Chuck spent at least one night in all 50 states and 8 of Canada’s 10 provinces. Jo was also an avid Phillies fan enjoying listening to the games on the radio. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 8 at St. Joseph's Church, County Line and Easton roads, Warrington. The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate Mass Cards.
