Obituary of Sonia A. Lynagh
Sonia A. (Ashburn) Lynagh, 90, of Cheltenham passed away peacefully on Saturday September 14, 2024.
She was the wife of James Lynagh, having been married for over 50 years before his passing in October of 2019.
Born in Philadelphia in 1934 to Lennie & Mary (Stadnick) Ashburn. She is survived by her sister Kathy, her sons Chris (Paige) and James (Christine), grandchildren Chris, Tom, Ryan, Mary, and Dylan, along with multiple nieces and nephews.
Sonia graduated from Dobbins Technical High School and was recognized as an outstanding alumnus (1996) for her volunteer work for the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross.
She also graduated from the Temple School of Nursing in 1955 and worked at the Temple Hospital maternity ward for many years.
In her later years she was employed by Abington Hospital and Jefferson Health.
Sonia loved visiting the Jersey shore. She would spend many summers with her friends down at the beach. She met her future husband Jim, at the Long Beach Island Hotel and were married in 1966. They went on to build a life together in Cheltenham, Pa. Through their hard-working years, Sonia and her husband were able to fulfill their dream of building a home in Sea Isle City, NJ. In the summer months you could always find Sonia and her family “down the shore”.
Sonia loved ladybugs and turtles. She was known to have the best rice krispy treats east of the Mississippi. She was an excellent baker and cook. Her Miami Beach cake will be talked about for years to come.
Sonia is at peace now and resting comfortably with those who have gone before her. Sonia was preceded in death by her husband Jim, brothers Lennie and Antoine, and nephews Lennie Jr. and Tommy Ashburn
